BJP anti-Woman, Congress anti-People
With political parties like these to lead us, we’ve hardly given our famous socio-cultural heritage a chance to survive.
First, Congress. A party that is the epitome of political-criminal nexus in India. After much bad publicity, courtesy the Volcker report, almost all newspapers, intellectuals and political parties have been asking Congress to dispose of Natwar Singh. Manmohan Singh, who has apparently learnt his place in the party, came out supporting Natwar, which turned out to be a shot in his own leg.
Now, after many demands and requests to drop Natwar Singh, Congress has symbolically removed him from the Steering Committee. And the party is waiting for him to resign by himself. But the thickness of Natwar has only intensified, he said he won’t quit. And Congress is waiting. (Update: Natwar Singh has at last offered tonight to resign.)
Seriously, if he was a man with any self-respect, he would have resigned a month back. Now it seems Congress has given him clear signals urging him to resign - is that all a national party would do to a minister accused of international corruption?
Coming to BJP. A party still living in its regressive world of chained women. Uma Bharati is a model of an unbridled woman. Now, I know that ‘unbridled’ is hardly a compliment for a woman - but girls, we need your help to change that! Unbridled should be made into a desirable quality for women; after all, women are not tame horses to be bridled and ridden!
So Uma displays the fiery nature so characteristic of any woman, and BJP trembles. BJP is so scared of her characteristic independence that it has gone to the extent of expelling her from the party. I predict that this will turn out to be a very bad move for BJP’s future. It has prided itself on discipline, but what does BJP know of discipline?
The party that has made it a habit to prevent the Parliament from functioning is priding itself on discipline? But for the BJP discipline means something different - unswerving devotion to its leaders, slavish behaviour to the leaders’ commands, and intolerance of any criticism.
While Congress does not have the guts to expel potential criminals from its party, BJP does not have the guts to retain firebrand females.
