Every 7 minutes a Woman is Harrassed
Isn’t this the saddest statistic of India? Oh well after poverty, hunger, crime………oh shouldn’t have started this!
But treatment of women has degraded in India and has reached quite abyssmal levels. Stories of rape, molestation and even harrassment abound, but are rarely reported. As P Vasudha says, Indian media should definitely give women’s issues more mileage than they presently do.
`What happened today’ was that a young schoolboy blew a kiss to my friend as he crossed her in a busy street.
Yes, my friend was brave enough not to turn and look the other way. She went up to the teenaged boy and slapped him across the face. But the dozen or so people standing in the vicinity remained mere spectators. Why didn’t anyone feel indignant at the impudence of the yet-unshaved brat?
And then she asks:
Has society accepted such acts of men, and even boys, as regular and customary? Yes, I believe we have.
The question is very pertinent, and I can’t deny Vasudha’s answer. We, as a society, have accepted rape as a common event and are not giving it the alarm and attention it is due.
As Vasudha says, we even have movies in virtually any Indian language where a rapist is asked to marry the victim - the victim of course has no say, and the rapist is even forced to marry her by the village elders calling it ‘justice’!
Vasudha suggests a way out for women.
There is an urgent need for women to break the stranglehold of societal norms and give voice to their own concerns. Women have to militate against the parochial mindset of society and de-internalise the myth of the superiority of the male.
But I really don’t think that the solution is as simple as that. Militating against the anti-woman ethos of the society can target only certain aspects such as eve-teasing.
But rapes will continue for it is not society that is the villain, but individual criminals in this case. These need greater measures to contain.

we already have laws for cheating, greedy, characterless fellows. why this
498a? and that ‘mental tension clause’ …nothing but CORRUPTION.
If you see a women around 18 or 20+ and she is straightly, against a
man and male society (misandry). Though, she is brought up by her father,
brother. still, she says men are BAD/CRUEL. It is not their fault. These

they would have met their fate. Almost devastated the culture of India.
There is no way for an Indian men to escape bad marriage or bad wife

separate in the first year…several years with several lakhs of rupees
has to be given for such women. How many young generation boys know about this?
Forget about child custody for fathers in India for such marriages.It easily takes
atleast 5 yrs. of rigorous legal battle JUST TO GET RID OF BAD(or adultery) wife in
India. How many unmarried Indian boys know this? These men already

IPC498a is enacted by legislation a decade back and marital discord
between men and women raised tremendously. Many women were not capable of
earning, but learn about this law by parents for their selfish reasons.

scientists in urban areas participating infrastructure design for the
country. what happens when these ppl.are not healthy in living? That

Marriage and divorces are purely personal in nature or relation.

The problem is INDIAN MEN themself. They became so foolish, that they
are not able to understand, how their health has became supporting these
NGOs. Today, Diabetes rates for Indian men is one among
largest in the world. Their faces are rotten and pale.
For each 498a, on an average, there is atleast 1 lakh of money being
spent in urban area by the family for various reason from corruption
to bail. In higher middle class families, where good earning is
there, the expense spent easily goes to 10lakhs. Wife has to be
compensated for quashing the case –till– to court clerk. If an NRI
is caught by the police, excellent day for the bad ppl. Several lakhs of
rupees being spilt.

newspaper about NGO to report to. Central treasury is empty. Poverty ridden
homeless children are suffering mercilessly. Many poor women are dying for
hunger. NRI became important for these NGOs than those children. I believe,
most of these organisations are just waiting to get calls by NRI wife. The
day call is received by NGOs, work on it, as there is big booty. Americans

Thousands of techie’s sorry tale of being beaten up by his wife made us think behond resonable that women are misusing laws (a little too flabbergasting considering the fact that the `victim’ just needed to take a peek into the history and draw inspiration to bash up his wife in retaliation!), digest this: on an average, more than 170 married men are lost their life each month in Bangalore district due to their abusive wives.

But, argue for heavy punishment to women who file false cases and for Lie detection, Brainmapping test on the accused (cost being paid by accused). Simple is not it ?
498a is not any other civil law. It is also not like any other criminal law. Its one of its kind. In no other law, people are arrested without proof or evidence.
It does not matter if it is one case or 10 thousand. Do not change the law, but give punishment to people who misuse laws.
Last year, 60,000 cases of 498a are filed. SIF claims 90% are false. Even if we say 5% are false, then there are 3000 false cases and there are 3 people for every case suffering.
If we assume 5% are false, then 15,000 people suffering, getting jailed “for being principled” and “for not taking dowry” and media hides it under carpet. But, it blows up stories of 3,500 bar dancers(I have nothing against bar dancers or stripe tease). I would like to conclude that Indian Media has come out worse than Indian Politicians. So, our democracy is in real danger.
If all laws are misused, then those how are victimised by law are forced to take law into their hands and they know law can be misused. Where will it all lead to ?
Indian Legal System lets Murderers and Rapists go scot free and yet 15,000 innocent people(mostly elders) are tortured in jail(if I take normal person’s assertion that 5% cases are false).
Do you feel Indian Media is “balanced” ? Why should people be balanced when it achieves NOTHING.
There are people crying everywhere about Corruption in a “Balanced” and “matured” manner. Did any improvement happen ?

I am straight talking to a person, “God forbid (I pray), if you (being a believer of Gender Equality) and your complete family get implicated in false 498a, get jailed and run around courts for years even though you are very principled and caring to your wife, then how will you feel and what will you do ?”
Will you say,”Its OK for all of us to get jailed, after all the law is helping thousands of other women” ?
But, when you find that true victims are not getting any help from this law as this law puts husband and his family behind bars, then what will you do ?
Then, when you realise that true dowry givers do not file 498a because, they want to recover the money and they know they will lose the dowry money if the case is filed and it runs for 10 years, then what will you do ?
