Yahaan - portraying life in Kashmir
Yahaan is a beautiful film outlining the touching story of the brave soldiers and the equally courageous people of Kashmir. Shoojit Sircar has done an excellent job of showing the real situation and not some glorified fantasy of the Army.
A city bred boy comes as Captain to Kashmir and falls in love with a girl in Srinagar near his bunker. Though their love is initially opposed and reprimanded by elders and friends, the depth of their love ultimately wins. But the climax comes when the Captain is ambushed and kidnapped by a bunch of terrorists.
After he returns due to a successful Army Operation, he is suspected of being a terrorist informer and an inquiry finds him guilty - this is because of ego clashes and ensuing corruption in the Army. But then, the terrorists have taken many civilians as hostages and have asked to negotiate only with him.
So he goes there. Meanwhile, his lover whose voice is not heard by the Army authorities reaches a TV station and gives vent to her feelings from the bottom of her heart. Both the Captain and the girl together score victory over the terrorists.
Jimmy Shergill and Minissha Lamba have acted wonderfully, their emotions reflecting those of real life. And the music is divinely melodious! A fantastic Sahara One movie.

This is a really good movie. Authintic cinema. Opens a very realistic scenario of the on the ground reality and a beautiful perspective of what love and care can do to heal a people torn by strife for decades.
Also brings out some of the gross inconsistencies in the administration and some of the mistakes our Army may have made in this lond struggle both sides.
The film brings out in its own distinct was the pristine beauty of Kashmir that has for so long eluded us.
This is a great directorial debut.
The only flaw in the storyline was the entire absence of the parents or family of Capt.Aman, particularly when he is going through the ordeal of wrongfully being detained for court-martial.
It is almost certain that at this time of extreme distress his parents and other family members would have made major efforts with the Military top brass, engaged Layers as well as lobbied in the cantonment.
This aspect is entirely missed out but overall the story has been carried extremely well.
Must see for every thinking Indian or a citizn of this world.
