Wow, I didn't know that these institutes were that old.

And it looks like the process of making BHU IT into an IIT has already begun and is moving successfully - let's hope it happens soon enough.

yeah these institutes ISM and IT-BHU must get their due respect and brand ,they deserve. rightly so, because they are one of the oldest in india( ISM- since-1926, BHU older) and also these institutes have esatblished themselves as most competent with IIT's.
i would go to the extent of saying that these two institutes deserve to be rewarded IIT status.

Hi Kapil,

Thank you very much for creating awareness about ISM and BHU. I have to accept my ignorance of these two institutes being on par with the IITs. It is indeed sad that popularity should be based on brand names in the field of education.

I appreciate and encourage your efforts to popularize ISM and BHU and hope that this piece will attract the attention of a substantial audience. Best wishes.

Hi sooraj,

I completely agree with your point of view that IIT's are the best institutes in India. But what makes it best is not its brand name but the students which being laurels to their Alma-mater every now and then . They burn their mid night oils to clear the toughest engineering entrance exam not only in India but in the world .

But what I fail to understand is the indifference of media towards the two other colleges (Indian School of Mines,Dhanbad and IT-BHU)which are among the 8 top colleges in India which takes their B.Tech input through IITJEE) I am from Indian School Of Mines and I know that the quality of students here are the same as that of any other IIT. We are, every now and then winning National Level Competitions ,getting international internships (mostly European countries) cracking GRE and other exams . We are the best in the field of earth sciences ,mining and petroleum engineering .The recent example of which is one of our alumni Dr. Sri Krishna Singh('64 batch mining) has been named a recipient of the award of Sciencs and Arts of Mexico. This is the highest honor for scientific contributions in Mexico. The award will be presented to him by the Mexican President in December. And there are many more like him who has been bringing laurels to ISM .Our national level technical cum cultural festival SRIJAN attract participants from more than 200 colleges in India.

But it is the lack of media attention( or I should say more of attention towards IIT) that our contributions are being overshadowed.

I have taken this as my personal mission to create a positive brand name of ISM and attract the media attention.
I hope this platfrom would start my mission in a positive direction.
