Loving India

We Indians are quite a patriotic lot…or a very patriotic lot!

I know many friends who have been born outside India but still call themselves Indian, and they are Indian - they may not speak the same language, they may not share the same customs, but the roots are the same - we understand the same culture.

It is quite strange that patriotism is so strong in a country of a billion people where…

…so many are in poverty, so many are dying or malnourished, there are quite a few discontented terrorist groups etc.

But what is amazing is that inspite of all the differences that exist in the really diverse Indian society, we are one! We are one not because of amalgamation, but inherently one.

It makes us one and all so happy when we hear of the success of the Delhi metro, or Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India; the spur in the economic growth or the new-found respect for India in the international clique - it just makes me wonder if there is really a breathing entity as Bharat Mata!

This is another of the Gandhi Jayanthi special articles. Are we too nationalist or are we enough patriotic, what are your thoughts?

Yeah, we are patriotic - just in words not action. We are patriotic to the point where we brag about it and it gets annoying
