Happy Birthday Mahatma Gandhi

The Father of our Nation has influenced numerous people through these years and continues to influence many more.

While I was visiting a British couple, they told me that they became vegetarian when Mahatma died – and they have been vegetarian ever since and have even brought up their four children vegetarian. These children have gone on to convert their partners and are bringing up their children as vegetarian!

On a news story yesterday, I was reading that Jennifer Aniston is touched by the Mahatma’s life and his teachings.

His most prominent teachings were based on “back to the roots”.

Mahatma could be said to be the founder-renewer of the Ahimsa movement. He would give his life and spirit for keeping an animal alive!

Gandhiji was also the founder of the Satyagraha movement – the non-cooperation mode of protest aimed at securing Truth, to gain more and liberate the masses.

Gandhi was a very honest person, that on reading his autobiography, though his earlier years were full of testing his own sincerity, the later ones teach us how to be sincere.

What else was the Mahatma that has touched our lives? Can you remember any…
