Siachen glacier - to abandon or not to
This is the question to which our leaders have found the brilliant answer - Abandon it!
Why did our world-famous military fight for this post and our bravest soldiers lose many lives if we are going to abandon it anyway? Has the Manmohan Singh government gone crazy?
Pakistan will ofcourse want India to abandon Siachen because we wrested it from them by war - a proud victory to India. And now India even has the audacity to discuss what to do with Siachen with the Devil itself!
It is startling to hear that India and Pakistan are in advanced talks to remove Indian soldiers from Siachen. But what is perturbing is that Pakistan is averse to India laying evidence to own the land. And who are they to say? It is now India’s land and India is free to do what it desires on it - I really don’t understand why our Govt. should ask Pakistan for permission?
What is India going to gain from this? Lots of money definitely - which need not be siphoned off to maintain perhaps the most expensive army post in the world!
What is India going to lose? The land, which ofcourse may be captured by Pakistan at a future date, some pride on deserting the world’s highest battleground (some may disagree with me that this is not a matter to be proud of), and who knows…a strategic point which may be useful if a forbidden war is ever to happen!
