Greg Chappell’s email – Cricket Controversy in India boils over

Greg Chappell clarifies that he did not ask Ganguly to step down at any point. On being asked by Ganguly himself, he said:

I told him that I thought he was struggling as a player and that it was affecting his ability to lead the team effectively and that the pressure of captaincy was affecting his ability to play to his potential. I also told him that his state of mind was fragile and it showed in the way that he made decisions on and off the field in relation to the team, especially team selection.

He alleges that Ganguly affected the team morale by making changes in his team in the very last minute. And since, being a cowardly captain, he was affecting the team,

I suggested to Sourav that he should consider stepping down from the captaincy at the end of the tour in the interests of the team and in his own best interests if he wanted to prolong his playing career.

A lot more follows…

More allegations revealing the dirty politics of Indian cricket:

Raj Singh Dungarpur, former BCCI president has said that erstwhile coach John Wright resigned saying he could not work with Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sourav Ganguly.

Dungarpur further accuses Dalmiya of exposing the email to the press.

Alleging that the members of the BCCI were ‘purchasable commodities, Dungarpur said that the Ganguly-Dalmia duo were responsible for the current rut in the team and the administration.

BCCI board gags the Indian team:

“You are advised to apply restraint and not make any comments to the media that affects the interest of Indian cricket,” the BCCI said in its directive to the players.

Harbhajan Singh could meanwhile not control his tongue and has shouted in support of Ganguly, alleging Chappell of “double standards”. Poor thing, could he not see his future? I mean, Ganguly is sure to go after this, and Chappell is more likely to stay along – now their relation is spoilt.

And, immediately Bhajji has been served a showcause notice and ordered to just shut up!

It is funny, things are happening so fast – but the BCCI has yet to meet Ganguly and Chappell formally to talk with them and to settle the situation. I would have expected that they would meet much sooner and put an end to this controversy that has already gotten out of hand.
