Don’t have enough guests at your wedding? Hire them!
As crazy as it may sound, this agency has already sent its guests for 10 weddings. That is certainly a big deal in our weddings where we do take pride in the number that we can command. Who are we kidding - we worry about the costs, but also want hundreds on our guest-lists.
Now, if your guests are not able to make it, or if you don’t have enough friends (friendless and Indian is like an oxymoron), then just hire them.
According to BBC, this agency lends guests of every colour, height and education, as your need may be! Do you want a tall, dark, illiterate or short and educated? It sounds really fun and really, really desperate…but here goes:
Why, the guests also take some time to spend with the family beforehand to get accustomed to the family, the ways etc. Quite thoughtful, don’t you think??
Its founder, MI Syed, got the idea for the agency when a friend married a woman from a different caste. The groom’s family did not approve of the marriage, and only five guests turned up.
Mr Syed explained that demand for his guests is growing because of the break up of extended families and lack of contact with relatives.
Some of the guests for hire are students, but others are doctors, chartered accountants, and other professionals.
“You might wonder why doctors want to come,” Mr Syed said.
“But I suppose they don’t mind having a nice evening out, and I pay them well.”
“The hired guests first go and spend some time with them, so that they know the style and atmosphere of the home. Then they behave accordingly.
