Fanaa - Bollywood breathes afresh
That Fanaa resurrects Bollywood would be an understatement.
I was under the impression that Bollywood has forgotten how to make “quality” films. It’s good to know that the memory still lingers.
The so-called comedies that come in torrents from Bollywood are so pathetic and disgusting - they really trivialize and insult the audience. They are so eye-wateringly not comedies, it is like the scripts were written by terrible lunatics.
Or else, the storylines are awfully wrong. A perfect repeat of earlier films or mis-adaptations of Hollywood stories. There is also an entire genre of movies that portray women as asses designed to bear the burden of men. This particular feature is abominably prevalent in many Bollywood movies.
Fanaa thankfully restores faith in the world’s largest film industry. A beautiful, quite un-traditional romance shattered by the reality of terrorism - that’s Fanaa in one line for you.
Kajol and Aamir exhibit their usual brilliance in acting. Kajol is this really bold, blind girl who falls in love with Aamir. When Aamir admits with slight embarrassment that he flirts with women without any emotion, Kajol says unabashedly that she does so only in love. Later she says that she’s in love with him, and doesn’t even expect a reply - the script blows very fresh, as against the run-of-the-mill romance of Bollywood.
They sleep together within a week (of course, before marriage!) and the next morning Kajol tells Aamir that she knows not to expect anything from him henceforth.
Just when you think - wait a minute…the film is full of Muslims and yet there is no death or destruction yet - terrorism strikes and creates the ripples in the story. I’m not going to spoil the rest of it, although I think other reviews may inconsiderately do so.
Although I should say that the language is Urdu - there were so many words I couldn’t understand and had to comprehend only from other cues, such as the surrounding Hindi words, body language and such.
So go enjoy Fanaa and tell me what you think below…

Very good and honest review. Kind of sick reading reviews from quarters who can’t compare Fanaa apart from the likes of slapstick comedies, literally no story line, and bare all/ shoot all / gangster all movies that came out of Bollywood lately.
Fanaa is a beauty in a package. Beautifully enacted, and goes back to beautiful shayer (poetry) that even translated in English sounds beautiful.

I disagree. I found the movie very boring with a very stale and predictable storyline. The only ray of light was Aamir and Kajol’s performances.
I think the movie was quite a good one for indian cinema. Awesome music, excellent performances, somewhat average story, good screenplay — all packed in one hindi movie. What more can we expect?
I agree that I didn’t wanted to watch it more than once, however, I was forced into watching it the second time and to my surprise, I want to watch the 1st part of the movie again now. Heh, unpredictable life.
Watching Fanaa after 5 months in a DVD was refreshing and made me miss Aamir Kajol pairing. Watching Sanjay-Vidya, Ash-Abhi, Ash-Hrithik potential, Salman-Preity, in recent movies couldn’t bring the same warmth that Aamir-Kajol exuded in Fanaa.
Bollywood you need to bring back Aamir-Kajol on screen. They are what ROMANCE should be potrayed.

Yash Raj has yet another winner on hand! As predicted, FANAA records historic collections in its opening weekend in the three major markets — U.S.A., U.K. and Australia. In fact, the film has overtaken the business of Yash Raj’s several biggies in the three countries.
In U.K., FANAA is next to VEER-ZAARA in terms of opening weekend numbers, but is next to MOHABBATEIN in terms of screen average.
In U.S.A., FANAA is next to VEER-ZAARA in terms of opening weekend numbers, but crosses all biggies like VEER-ZAARA, SALAAM | NAMASTE, BUNTY AUR BABLI and HUM TUM in terms of screen average.http://bollywoodvillage.com/news-detail.asp?nid=339
