I rather think the Congress party has an obssession with Sonia Gandhi. Because it knows it has no intrinsic strength it can stand on, that its only vote-getter is a Nehru-Gandhi clansperson with a Gandhi surname. Isn’t that pathetic for a party that claims more than a hundred years of heritage?

The difference is, Abhishek, these lower and lesser MPs have good reason to cling on to their seats. If they resigned, their constituency and all the Indians would only celebrate and they may never be able to win them back!

What Sonia did is definitely a very responsible and admirable act, the good thing for Congress is that they got political mileage out of it too. Nothing wrong even here, they’re a political party.

lol…ok sooraj i agree with you…yeah she got political mileage..theres no denying that..but consider this…
The other MPs MLAs etc who are in a similar situation chose not to resign…Q. Do they not want political mileage…i dont think so…instead they would rather stick to the chair until someone pries them out of there- hunger for power…my point is that I think its a good thing that ppl resign their posts in case of a situation which entails some sort of a moral responsibilty or conflict of interest etc. Its a good thing because it demonstrates that politics shouldnt become just another vocation. Consider the number of criminals, dons and hoodlums holding parliamentary, legislative or ministerial posts today. They spend insane sums of money to win a n election. That is why this action has so much political mileage…because it is a good example and shuts up all the critics…shes a very intelligent woman…and this was definitely a smart move.

I agree Abhishek. Sonia did do an admirable thing by resigning although all the political mileage gained out of it obscures the goodness of the act.

Heres another way of looking at the whole office of profit fiasco. Sonia was the only one to resign over holding an office of profit. Our patriotic sons of the soil, who are in a similar position, are still clinging tightly to their ‘kursis’. Don’t get me wrong. I am not a congress supporter. Its no better or worse than the rest of the lot. However this loyalty thing seems to be BS, imo. Primarily because you can hardly generalise. There are enough examples of immigrants who have served their adopted countries to the best of their abilities. These are the same arguments used by white supremacists in the west.

I am delighted to hear about Sonia Gandhi’s resignation. But what bother’s me
the most is that how did we Indians or the Congress in particular allowed her
to take charge of the entire party.

Let me ask each and every individual who loves his country. As an Indian if you
have spent 20 years in India and move out to another country, your loyalty will
be towards which country?

I doubt its anything other than India. Then similar should be the case with
Sonia Gandhi. And if this is the case then how can the control of a country be
passed to someone who’s first country is not India.

And if she loves India more then her birht place then I doubt she can be loyal
to India too.

Either way we should not allow someone from foreign soil to hold the top most
post for the country or be able to influence it.
