Rahul Dravid: the star born out of Ganguly-Chappell fight Rahul Dravid: the star born out of Ganguly-Chappell fight

First about the Ganguly-Chappell spat that rocked the cricket world some months back. It has died down now…ahem, largely! Very recently, Greg Chappell spoke to the Guardian and just could not control his big mouth.
Chappell once again opened the can of worms by bad-mouthing Ganguly to the British newspaper. Ganguly, mature and smart for a change, went straight to the BCCI complaining. Good move! So the BCCI went after Greg, called him for a closed-door meeting and then told our hungry Press that Chappell has been disciplined.
Does the Australian know discipline? We’ll see.
Coming to Dravid, successes have showered his initial period of captainship. First the Sri Lankans were shamed, then the Pakistanis were driven out of their home pitches, and now the famed English team faced a setback in their second Test.
I was thinking, should I wait for tomorrow’s victory (hopefully) before I write this? But then, I thought, oh what the hell.
Immaterial of whether Rahul Dravid drives India to victory tomorrow, kudos to him for having steered his team clear of a dirty and embarrassing controversy that enveloped them, courtesy of their ex-captain and coach.
Dravid may not seem the captain material, at least he doesn’t to me. I wouldn’t have recognized him as a leader. But having given him a chance, I congratulate the spur decision of BCCI. He has now been crowned India’s captain until the World Cup (in 2007?).
Rahul, wish you the best against our former imperial pigs for tomorrow and next month! And generally in all your future matches.
What do you have to say? Wish Dravid the best? Tell us below.

Update: So India lost to England on 22nd March very very badly.
I almost feel like retracting all the praise I showered on Dravid, but that would just be impulsive. Dravid does deserve them, so my best wishes in the One-Dayers against England this month.
