Salaam Namaste
Breathing new life and freshness into Bollywood!
Salaam Namaste is even better than the reviews. Though love at first sight seems a bit too stale, the living together without marriage and the guy freaking out when his girlfriend becomes pregnant reflects real life so vividly. Preity and Saif decide to live together just to see if they are really in love and if they like to live with each other. To Preity’s surprise, she falls in love pretty soon and quite stupidly also finds herself pregnant much too early in the relationship. Like any normal guy, Saif freaks out! Their love is on the docks, and the rest of the story is about them getting back together.
A very mature movie. There is one lip-to-lip kiss on the movie, and both Preity and Saif have done it exceedingly well, without a trace of shame or self-consciousness that is very explicit in kissing scenes in other movies. I’m talking about mainstream Bollywood here, and not about the part-porn flicks that regularly come out of Mumbai nowadays.
Anyway, Salaam Namaste is a must see. But I thought Preity could have worn sarees/salwars in more scenes than just the last one!

yeah i agree that salaam namaste is a cool movie and kudos to the director for dealing with a subject that is considered taboo in modern indian society but at the same time is quite relevant to today’s youth especially the urbane.however the climax was a bit too over the top and gaudy,a cheap imitation of the hugh grant starrer “nine months”.The climax is a big let down.I also thought that the issue of live-in relationships could have been potrayed better, but all in all it was a fun movie to watch and certainly a wholesome entertainer.
